I’ve been having a bit of a makeup moment which happens every so often. I go through phases, as I think many of us do, where I’m really into buying clothes, then skincare, then makeup, then wanting to revamp my bedroom etc etc xD So lately it has been makeup I’ve been spending (too much) money on.
My first purchase came via Boots where I mostly picked up some NYX goodies. I love that NYX is so easily available in the UK now! Woohoo. Can’t wait until it starts appearing in more actual stores too. I’d love to be able to go and swatch instore.
I’d run out of a mini Urban Decay setting spray I’d had which I’d really enjoyed using but I wanted to try a more affordable setting spray. This one has worked nicely so far and I have nothing bad to say, however my main use of a setting spray is to just make my makeup sit nicer and lessen any look of cakiness or appearing too powdery rather than improve longevity; my makeup generally lasts well on my skin regardless! So I can’t comment on whether it improves wear time but it’s refreshing and combines my makeup nicely.
I am not a big eyeshadow wearer but lately I’ve been watching too many Jaclyn Hill videos and it’s inspired me to try get more into eyeshadow. I picked up Heat (the red) and Zen (the green). I haven’t played with these yet unfortunately so I don’t know if they’re any good but they swatch nicely, so hopefully this will translate to the lid and they’ll blend nicely. We’ll see.
I am definitely more of a matte lips girl than gloss (who knows, that could change though). I saw these had launched on the Boots website and I decided to pick this colour up after looking at swatches online. The colour range is truly brilliant, they’ve covered every variation of nude lip you could dream of. Unfortunately though I was slightly underwhelmed with the formula when worn alone. The colour is great, but it is very drying, uncomfortable and settles into all the cracks and lines and starts to peel a bit. But this is kind of to be expected with many matte liquid lipsticks, so I’ll be wearing it over a lip balm or other more hydrating lipsticks and I’m sure it’ll be fine!
From swatches this looked like it could possibly be a dupe for MAC Velvet Teddy which is basically one of my all time favourite lipsticks, however as they’re not cruelty free I desperately want to find something to replace it that is. And actually, this one is pretty darn close! I wish I’d done a swatch photograph of them together to show how similar they are, there’s not too much in it but I think Velvet Teddy is slightly more pink, with Eurotrash coming off a bit darker and browner, but the difference in shade in minimal. Unfortunately for me though, Eurotrash does not really measure up in terms of formula when compared to MAC. If I hadn’t tried the MAC one I’d probably love Eurotrash a lot more than I do as it really is great and there’s nothing ‘wrong‘ with it, but because I have tried the MAC one I know how beautiful and creamy their Matte lipstick formula is. So in short, NYX’s Eurotrash is a great lipstick that I think I’ll wear a lot, but a perfect replacement for Velvet Teddy it is not.
Lastly I bought an Archery eyebrow pencil as it was on offer for £6 and I’d completely run out of my previous one of these and my NYX micro brow pencil! I love them both but NYX has the far superior colour range so if the S&G wasn’t on offer I’d have gone for the NYX one and it would’ve been a NYX white wash for this haul! 🙂
More hauls coming soon, as I said, I’ve been very naughty with make up purchases 😉
