This product from SkinCeuticals is a moisturiser with SPF 50, provided by mineral form and offering broad spectrum UVA/UVB protection. If you’re into looking after your skin I’d recommend researching the two different forms of SPF (mineral and chemical). After doing this I decided I really wanted to stick to mineral SPF where possible. Mineral sunblocks seem a lot harder to come by and more expensive so if you have any recommendations yourself please let me know in the comments!
This product comes in a hygienic bottle and it is essential to shake well before use. The bottle has one of those ball things in it that you can hear and feel when you shake it. You get 50ml of product which is a standard amount for a face moisturiser. As it is a very liquid/watery formula it has lasted me well as a little can go a long way. Of course SPF is not something to be stingy with though so it is good to be generous with it.
In the interests of convenience I like to have my SPF within a moisturiser so I can do both in just one final step in the mornings. This product does not feel like your typical moisturiser, it’s much thinner and less rich. It is just about emollient enough for me with normal type skin to use as a moisturiser but I suspect for dryer skin types it would be lacking. However, I like to use a hyaluronic acid serum or an alternative moisturiser before putting this on as that helps to make up for what this product lacks so dryer skin types could try this. Because of it’s consistency and texture I don’t find it particularly enjoyable to use, it really does leave you wanting in terms of feeling like a lovely, whipped, creamy moisturiser. Oily skin people may appreciate this product though as it is certainly not greasy!
The formula is very gentle and I’ve had no bad reactions or breakouts in response to using it. As the bottle states, I do agree it would be suitable for sensitive skin and all skin types, except maybe those with very dry skin as I mentioned above. Once applied, it does leave a slight white cast on my face that does lessen when properly rubbed in and allowed to sink in. This doesn’t bother me too much as I have light skin and wear makeup if I’m going out in public, however if you have darker skin and/or don’t generally wear foundation this might be a drawback. Luckily though there is a universal tinted version available that could solve this problem.
Once dried down and sunken in the finish is skin-like and definitely not greasy like is often the case with SPF products. Makeup can sit well on top too. Something that isn’t really that important but I just wanted to mention is that the smell reminds me of balloons! As far as I can tell there is no added fragrance so something in the ingredients must just smell like balloon to me lol!
In conclusion, I’m not sure I would buy this again. For me, I ideally want more moisturisation in my SPF so I can have it all in one product. However, for oily or sensitive skin this could be something you might be interested to try!
I bought my one from FacetheFuture and got a good price I thought as SkinCeuticals is not a cheap brand!
