Pixi Glow Tonic

Pixi’s Glow Tonic is a rather famous and cult product in the beauty world so it’s likely you’ve already heard of it and maybe even used it. However, if on the off chance you haven’t, I wanted to give it a dedicated review on this blog as I haven’t done so yet!

Glow Tonic is an exfoliating facial toner that is to be used after thoroughly cleansing your face. You can apply it AM and/or PM; I generally like to use exfoliating toners both morning and evening. It contains glycolic acid which is a great AHA (alpha hydroxy acid) that helps to exfoliate the skin and aids in the turnover of dead skin cells. This helps your skin to look fresher and can also help to prevent and decrease spots and break-outs. For me, this is the biggest benefit of using chemical exfoliating products like this. They massively help me to reduce the amount of spots I get and when I do get them they’re not usually big beasty ones and they go away fairly quickly. To see effects like this though you should be very strict and regularly use the products on a long term basis. I couldn’t be without them now!

Pixi Glow Tonic is very pleasant to use. The fact it is an alcohol free formula is amazing as so many of the similar products on the market contain alcohol! Being alcohol free means it’s much more gentle and less likely to dry out your skin. It does have fragrance in it but I don’t find it strong or offensive. I’ve never had any irritation problems from it either. When I use it, I do find I have a slight tingling sensation but it’s actually quite a nice feeling (unlike The Ordinary’s Glycolic Acid). This feeling may be partly down to the inclusion of Witch Hazel in the ingredients, which I’ve found in the past always seems to give me a tingly feeling!

A 250ml bottle of Glow Tonic costs £18, which to me is pretty pricey. That’s a big reason why I don’t exclusively use this product as it would cost me a fortune as I get through a bottle in about a month. I’ve found a number of other more affordable alternatives that work in a similar way, such as Nip+Fab’s Glycolic Fix Extreme Night Pads and Superdrug’s Naturally Radiant Glycolic Tonic.

I can see why this product is so well loved as it’s lovely to use, has a tangible positive effect on the skin and it’s packaged cutely, like all Pixi products. I’m definitely a fan and will repurchase it every now and then in between using and trying out other exfoliating toners. Glossier’s Solution is the next new one I’m trying out!
