Things I’ve Been Loving Lately

I thought it’d be nice to share a few things I’ve been loving and enjoying recently! As well as beauty products, I’ve got a few more ‘lifestyle’ things to share too. Let’s start of with the beauty bits first though!

anastasia beverly hills modern renaissance palette boots botanics radiance balm the body shop honey bronzer collection lasting perfection concealer b clean melting gel cleanser

Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Eyeshadow Palette (£41) (read my dedicated review and see swatches of it here)

I’m so happy that I don’t regret purchasing this! With the high price-tag I was worried it wouldn’t be worth it but it really is a gorgeous palette and I reach for it a lot whenever I’m wearing makeup that day. I’d say my most used shades are Buon Fresco, Raw Sienna and Warm Taupe.

Botanics All Bright Radiance Balm (£2.50)

I bought this stuff on a bit of a whim as I had an offer on my Boots Advantage card for triple points on a purchase from the Botanics range. This was super affordable and I had read a couple of positive comments about it on other girls’ blogs. I really like this stuff! It’s very fluid so you only need the tiniest bit to cover your entire face. Lately I’ve been using it on no makeup days for some extra hydration or as a primer under makeup to likewise add some hydration but also some glow! It feels very cooling on the skin and for the price I think it’s a lovely product to use.

The Body Shop Honey Bronzer Bronzing Powder 01 (£14)

This is such a beautiful bronzer! My Nars Laguna bronzing powder (which is gorgeous) is running low so I wanted something in stock ready for whenever that runs out. However rather than using up Laguna first like I intended I keep reaching for this Body Shop one instead! I was worried it would be too light and unnoticeable on my skin as I chose to buy the lightest shade but it turned out to be just what I hoped. I don’t really like a super deep, orangey bronze on me, especially when I’m pale after Winter so this is a perfect shade that just gives me some colour and definition without being too much. A separate review and swatch is on my to-do list!

Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer Fair 1 (£4.19)

I still love this concealer so much! I’ve tried the Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer and the Urban Decay Naked Skin Concealer and I still prefer this one over both of them! It does have similarities with the Nars one but considering the price difference I still have to say I prefer Collection’s. I use this under my eyes, down the nose, on my chin and on the centre of my forehead and blend it in with a damp Beauty Blender.

B. Clean Melting Gel Cleanser (£6.99)

I bought this when it was on offer for a crazy good price to use as my next makeup removing cleanser once the current one was finished. I am loving formulas like this at the moment! I remove my eye makeup separately and then use this to remove my base by applying some to my dry face and massaging it all over to melt away the makeup and remove any leftover traces of eye makeup. I then wipe it off with a damp cloth or flannel and it works brilliantly! I’ll then proceed on with a second cleanse with a different product. I wouldn’t use this as my ‘proper’ cleanse, only to remove makeup.

That’s it for beauty products, now a few other favourites!

Chinti & Parker (clothing brand)

This is more of an inspirational favourite as I don’t own or plan to buy anything from this brand. I came across them numerous times on Instagram and I just love their designs, particularly the jumpers! They’re a premium brand that are way out of my price range but I love browsing their Instagram. 🙂

Yoga with Adriene (YouTube Channel)

I have fallen in love with this woman! She’s so soothing and seems to have a wonderful personality. I bought a yoga mat a few months ago but only recently got around to actually using it! I searched ‘yoga’ on YouTube and Adriene’s channel was the first listing so I tried out one of her videos. I’ve now done some yoga every day for the past week and I’m really enjoying it which I must credit partly to Adriene. She has dedicated videos for beginners so there’s no excuse not to give it a try if you’ve ever contemplated taking up yoga. I think it’s going to have a really positive effect on my mental heath too – I hope so anyway!

Mikey Pearce (YouTube Channel)

I bloody love Mikey! I’m an avid viewer of YouTube and came to know Mikey through his cameos in Joe Sugg’s videos. When he made his own channel I had to subscribe because I absolutely loved his personality. He’s so funny and quirky with his ‘posh’  sounding accent and constant exclamations of ‘Corrr’! I think he just comes across very sweet and genuine. My favourite videos are his skits or comedy sketches; they have me laughing out loud. He’s also openly talked about his body insecurities and how he’s trying to work on getting fitter which is very endearing, bless him. I think we often forget about men when we talk about body confidence etc!

And thus ends this post! Thank you for reading and if you have any recommendations or suggestions you think I might like after reading this, please let me know! 🙂

My Signature Jewellery

I don’t know about you but I’m pretty low key when it comes to jewellery. I love it, but I don’t change it up very much or buy jewellery very often. I like having quality, reliable pieces that I can wear whatever the outfit, whatever the occasion. Just like you might have a signature scent, I have signature jewellery. If I’m wearing something other than my silver Tiffany pendant then you know some serious outfit planning has happened because usually another necklace doesn’t even come into consideration. I received it from my grandparents for my 18th birthday.

The other piece lives on my wrist permanently and I received it for my 21st birthday from my parents. 🙂 I don’t know if a watch technically counts as ‘jewellery’ but for the sake of this post, it does. It is from Olivia Burton and I still love it so much. It never clashes with anything and it’s just so pretty and classy. I would love to build up a watch collection as I literally wear this one every day, but that could get expensive and this one does perfectly anyway. If I’m not wearing it for some reason there will be countless times I lift my arm and glance at my wrist only to realise doh, it’s not there. Yes, I am a definite ‘watch person’ now.

If I don’t wear either of these things now I almost feel semi-naked! Like I said, I’m forever looking at my wrist for the watch and I also grab the pendant around my neck and run it along the chain. It’s like a comfort thing, something to do with my hands. So I feel very lost without them!

I don’t wear rings and I’ve never had my ears pierced so I guess I’m pretty low maintenance when it comes to jewellery! I would like a nice bracelet though, they’re more up my alley. I did have one that I wore all the time like these two but it broke. 😥

Do you have ‘signature jewellery’?

Current 5 Favourite Everyday Lipsticks

Lipstick is one of my favourite things. It’s got to a point where I have so many that I don’t wear so I’m going to try to make a conscious effort to rotate what I’m wearing so they all get some love. However, at the moment there are certain ones I just can’t help myself but wear all the frickin time! So maybe the rotation thing won’t be happening any time soon…

Here is the current squad…

Gerard Cosmetics Buttercup | Urban Decay Uptight | Urban Decay Backtalk | NYX Liquid Suede Sandstorm | Dose of Colors Bare with Me Matte Liquid Lipstick

Gerard Cosmetics Lipstick in Buttercup £10.50

This is a really easy to wear nude pink. It’s one of those lipsticks you can chuck on without having to think about it as it looks great and will go with most makeup looks. The formula is buttery and I’d say the finish is satin, it’s not glossy but there’s definitely shine.

Urban Decay Vice Lipsticks in Uptight and Backtalk £15 each

I’ve previously done a whole post dedicated to these lipstick when I first got them. You can read that here. Since writing that I have only grown to like them more. The comfort matte formula is so creamy and smoothing and one of the nicest I’ve ever tried. I’ve also grown more fond of the packaging which I initially didn’t really like lol.

NYX Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick in Sandstorm £6.50

This is probably my most worn lipstick out of all of them the past couple of months! It’s a real struggle to not wear this every day! I just love the colour and the formula of these is fantastic. It definitely leans towards being a cool brown/beige which I love because of the 90s vibes, however I’d still class it as a nude because it has pinkish tones. It’s just a gorgeous colour that allows me to wear brown on my lips but in a way I am very comfortable with. Liquid suedes also last well on the lips providing you allow them to dry down fully, which does take a while.

Dose of Colors Matte Lipstick in Bare with Me £14.50

I’d call this colour a peachy, nude pink. The formula of these is also brilliant and really long-lasting. They look more matte on the lips than the NYX Liquid Suedes but this means they can make your lips look dry and enhance all the lines and cracks! However despite this they manage to actually not feel drying or uncomfortable! Bare with Me is a really pretty colour and I feel I neglected it at first because I love the other shade ‘Truffle’ so much, but I am making up for it now. 🙂

2015 Beauty Favourites

These are my favourite posts at the moment as they are so helpful in finding out the very best products in different categories. Whether you’re looking for your ‘holy grail’ foundation (aren’t we all, still) or the missing product to your skincare routine, if people are choosing things as their favourite from the entire year, they must have worked for them at least, so they might work for you too!

In summer 2015 I decided I wanted to start buying only cruelty free cosmetics in future, but I still have lots of non-cruelty free products to use up, so even if I’ve liked them I’m not going to include them in this post as I don’t want to promote them. For this reason, some categories won’t have a favourite from the year as I’ve yet to find one! My main aims with my blog are to be completely honest but also to stick to my morals which now include my aim to buy only cruelty free products.

2015 beauty favourites

Micellar Water

Botanics Hydration Burst 3 in 1 Micellar Cleanser

Superfacialist Rose Hydrate Cleanser

Honourable mention: No7 Beautiful Skin Melting Gel Cleanser for Normal / Dry Skin

Alpha H Liquid Gold (every other evening)

Day Moisturiser (with SPF)

Too Faced Primed & Poreless Face Primer

Honourable mention: NYX Pore filler

Nars Sheer Glow Foundation

(I am not completely convinced this is my favourite ever foundation but I do love it and other ones I am using I am just using up as they are not cruelty free. I’m sure I will try a few new foundations in 2016!)

Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer – Fair

Loose Powder

bareMinerals Illuminating Mineral Veil

Honourable mention: Collection Sheer Loose Powder in Translucent

Eyebrow Pencil

NYX Micro Brow Pencil

Honourable mention: Soap & Glory™ Archery™ 2-in-1 Brow Filling Pencil & Brush

No7 Dramatic Lift Mascara

Liquid Eyeliner

Collection Extreme 24 Hour Felt Tip Liner

Sleek MakeUp Blush

Sleek MakeUp Face Contour Kit

Illuminator by Anastasia Beverley Hills (in So Hollywood)

(I slagged this off for the high price tag to begin with, but months on and actually using it I really like it. I do still think I’d have preferred Starlight though, I think a white/silver highlight would look beautiful!)

KIKO Luscious Cream – Creamy Lipstick

Gerard Cosmetics Lipstick

And that’s all the categories for this year! Hopefully by 2016 favourites I’ll have a nails category winner, eye colour, serum, brushes, perfume etc!

As always, we want to try new things and search for something even better the next year! Particular areas I want to try new products within are foundation and concealer; I’ve always been most focused with creating the perfect complexion. That’s probably why I love skincare so much! I’m really happy with my skincare routine at the moment, my skin’s the best it has been in years and I largely think that’s down to the products I’ve chosen. However, I am not currently using a serum in my routine, so this is an area I’d like to try something new in. I’ve tried face oils but I swear they just break me out and ruin all my progress! So I think a serum would be a better option for me 🙂

Best wishes,

Current Favourites

 Nars Sheer Glow Foundation

I finally bit the bullet and ordered this foundation online as it seems to be everyone’s favourite foundation. I got the shade Mont Blanc and it’s probably the best match I’ve ever had with a foundation which is partly why I love it so much. It’s a fairly runny consistency with a medium coverage; it’s not enough to completely hide some of the marks on my cheeks but if I’m that bothered I can just add concealer, otherwise what’s wrong with showing a bit of imperfection anyway. It’s probably only me that notices it! I would rather it came with a pump, I may have to buy one separately to add to it, but overall I completely agree with people’s positive reviews of this foundation. If you buy it online at various sites you can often get a 10-20% discount which makes it less of a splurge.

Alpha H Liquid Gold

Another splurge item, I hate that I like this so much as it’s fairly pricey. However I do credit it, along with other chemical exfoliating products, with clearing up my skin. It’s lasted a fair amount of time, I got it mid August and it’ll probably last me until the end of the year if I use it a couple of times a week. Initially I was using this every other evening after cleansing and it worked its magic. Results were not immediate but give it a chance and it really does improve the texture of your skin. I think once I’ve finished it I’ll see how my skin reacts, if it seems to miss it and go back to being spotty and bumpy then of course I will repurchase. I still use Nip+Fab glycolic pads everyday so they should hopefully help maintain my skin without needing to repurchase. Its one I know I can come back to in future though! I love it.

No7 Beautiful Skin Melting Gel Cleanser

I only recently got this cleanser as I had a £5 off No7 skincare and wanted to spend it. But oh my gosh I love it! It’s so cool, it comes out as a gel which you rub all over your skin, then it transforms into more of an oil which you can then wash off. I end up massaging it over my face for ages as it feels so great and luxurious! The formula definitely feels and smells of luxury, well worth the £4.50 it cost with the voucher. No7 is always overlooked but they have some fantastic products and this is one of them. I use it as a second/morning cleanse after removing the majority of makeup with micellar water.

Batiste Texture Me Texturising Spray

I’d never used a texturising spray before this, which was odd really as my hair is always so flat and lacking body. I used to just use dry shampoo on my hair the day after washing it when its all fluffy and too clean, but this is a much better substitute for that as it seems lighter. I just spray this all over my hair when its a bit flat and give it a rub to give it some shape. It’s nothing miraculous but I feel it does make a difference and I like having it there if I’m having a bad hair day. It smells great too!

ASOS Denim Patchwork A-Line Mini Skirt – £28

The first of my fashion favourites lately, I love this skirt! I literally wore it  4 days this week, anytime I needed to leave the house I wanted to wear this, which doesn’t often happen. It was good though as I usually don’t have a clue what I want to wear each day and I take so much time to decide, before just throwing on jeans and a striped tee. This with black tights and any grey or white tee/cropped jumper with ankle boots, chuck on a coat and scarf and it’s a winter go-to.

River Island Beige Stripe Print Scarf – £18

This scarf is a stunner, if that’s not a weird thing to call a scarf… I ordered it when River Island had 25% off, initially as a Christmas gift for my mum, however when it arrived I tried it on and I’m sorry but there was no way my mum was getting it after that. The River Island website shows it much better, it has lots of different patterns to it and I love this and the colours its made from. Its soft and goes great with a lot of outfits I currently seem to be wearing.

Best wishes,
