Naturisimo Beauty Haul

In my quest to lead a more healthy lifestyle, I want to gradually introduce more and more natural products into my beauty regime. Naturisimo.com is such a great website that makes doing that so easy; this was the first time I used the site and I got great value for money and super quick delivery.

Jason Normalizing Tea Tree Treatment Shampoo £6.99

Shampoo is an easy thing to swap for a more natural alternative. I wash my hair roughly every 4 days and towards day 3-4 my hair starts to get pretty itchy so I thought a tea tree shampoo might do my scalp some good and keep the itchiness at bay. I haven’t tried this yet but the bottle is huuuge so let’s hope I like it as it’s going to last me ages.

A’kin Macadamia & Wheat Conditioner for Dry Hair £8.90

My hair’s main concern is dryness so I always go for conditioners aimed at dry/damaged hair. I’ve used this once and it was a thinner consistency than I’m used to however it was very nourishing and it just felt…natural, which was great! Unfortunately for someone like me who uses lots of conditioner every time I wash my hair, this lil bottle will not last me long 😦 I reckon 3 applications, 4 if I’m lucky.

Lily Lolo Eyeliner Pencil £6.99

My super sensitive eyes were being a pain in the ass and watering sooo much every day so I was trying to figure out what was causing it. I thought a new natural eyeliner wouldn’t hurt so I got this one which is very nice and black! However I later established that the culprit was my moisturiser (Good Things Manuka Honey Daily Moisturiser) which I have now had to stop using 😦

Odylique Avocado 24 Hour Replenishing Cream £22

The next three purchases were all intended to combat my dehydrated feeling skin. The moisturiser I was using at night prior to this just wasn’t cutting it so I wanted to buy a new one. As I use this at night, I can’t say what it’s like under makeup. My assumption would be not great as it’s quite rich and oily. As a night cream thought I have been loving it, in conjunction with the other products I bought (below). I no longer wake up with a tight feeling face. I like that it’s in a pump as it’s much more hygienic than all the moisturisers around that are in tubs. It does have a bit of a funky smell but that doesn’t really bother me as I view it as demonstrating how beautiful and natural it is!

Laidbare From Dusk Till Dawn Vitamin C Serum

I know how beneficial Vitamin C can be for skin so when I saw this for an awesome price along with some other great ingredients, I just had to try it! I’ve only used it a couple of times as I have been using the Antipodes one (see below) more, but it seems good. It’s a very oily formula which surprised me when I first pressed the pump as I was expecting something more creamy! The packaging is basic but good, however I have already cracked the plastic lid that protects the pump lol. I’ll give it a proper trial run once I’ve done likewise with the Antipodes one.

Antipodes Joyous Night Replenish Serum £24.99

Last but not least I picked up this similarly oily serum. It comes in a pipette bottle and is a real pleasure to use. Both these serums are great for a facial massage whenever you want to treat yourself to one. I wanted to try an Antipodes serum after enjoying using their Manuka Honey Mask so much (which I spoke about a bit here). Naturismo are selling this one for such a good price too, £24.99, whereas the RRP is £38.99! That pulled me in probably more than it should of haha. Overall though, this in conjunction with the moisturiser has really helped get rid of that feeling of dehydration.

Do you have any natural products that you swear by?

Love Nicole

Empties with Mini Reviews #3

IMG_2297Here goes my third Empties of the year! You can have a look at Empties#1 here and Empties#2 here!

Skincare

Eucerin Even Brighter Day Cream SPF30

Would I buy again? No

I bought this because of the good SPF and in the hope it might help fade some of the marks left behind by spots on my cheeks. This didn’t happen and I could barely use it because when I did it would make my eyes water for the rest of day. I ended up just using it on my neck as my eyes were SO sensitive to it, even though I obviously wasn’t putting it directly near my eyes. I must not get along with the ingredients. Very happy to finish this up.

Nivea Daily Essentials Rich Regenerating Night Cream

Would I buy again? No

This is far too thick and rich for my face, I felt it just clogged up my skin rather than doing any good. I used it on my hands and body to finish it up.

Superfacialist Vitamin C+ Skin Renew Cleansing Oil

Would I buy again? Yes

This is lovely product and featured in my July Favourites. Nourishing and smoothing, it can take your makeup off or be used as your second/morning cleanse. It smells so lovely.

La Roche Posay Effaclar H Multi Compensating Soothing Moisturiser

Would I buy again? Yes, if they were cruelty free

This is a lovely moisturiser, it’s light but it gave brilliant moisture! This was really pleasant to use when I’d been drying out my face with treatments trying to get rid of spots.

Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water

Would I buy again? Yes, if they were cruelty free

A good standard micellar water that does what you need it to do! It is probably the best value for money one out there with its 400ml size.

Nivea Daily Essentials Sensitive 3 in 1 Micellar Water

Would I buy again? No

This does the same job as the Garnier one, no better or worse really. If you’re not that bothered about cruelty free status then you might as well go with Garnier as it’s better value for money!

Liz Earle Eyebright Soothing Eye Lotion

Would I buy again? No

I got this free when I bought a Cleanse and Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser which was a nice extra. However this is a bit of a pointless product I think. It feels nice and cooling on your eyes, but a splash of water does the same thing for me! I can’t see this being useful to anyone unless they have very sore or sensitive eyes.

Superfacialist Rose Hydrate Cleanser

Would I buy again? Yes

This is a lovely creamy cleanser! I used it as my morning cleanse and second cleanse in the evening after removing makeup with micellar water. I’d definitely recommend.

Make-Up

IMG_2305

Maybelline Fit Me Concealer

Would I buy again? Yes, if they were cruelty free

Annoyingly this was an amazing concealer! I would probably say I slightly prefer it to Collection Lasting Perfection, it’s so creamy with amazing coverage for under-eyes as well as spots, but I don’t want to buy it again due to their animal testing status.

Rimmel Lasting Finish Foundation

Would I buy again? Yes, if they were cruelty free

This is actually a really good foundation in terms of lasting power and coverage. The colour match of this one was not good for me, I don’t know how I wore it! It’s just too dark for me, but they have paler colours that would probably be fine.

Makeup Revolution Brow Dual Arch & Shape

Would I buy again? Yes!

This is a really good value brow pencil. It lasted way longer than the Sleek one, and is easy to use and a good colour. It has a pen/inky end which I didn’t really use as they don’t do much, but the pencil is great to fill in and shape.

Haircare

IMG_2302Yes To Coconut Ultra Moisture Conditioner

Would I buy again? No, I don’t think so

I’m on the search for great cruelty free haircare, so I tried out Yes To. It’s a nice conditioner, smells lovely, you’ll love it if you’re a coconut lover! It’s also 97% natural which I like. Unfortunately I’m not sure I’d purchase again as it didn’t quite live up to my expectations in terms of moisture. My hair is pretty dry and it wasn’t as nourishing as I’ve been used to.

Bodycare/Miscellaneous

IMG_2300Soap & Glory Sugar Crush Body Buttercream

Would I buy again? Yes

If you’ve smelt this then you’ll know how amazing it is! This is a mini one I got in a Christmas gift set last year. It’s a gorgeous scent and a lovely formula. Definitely worth a try!

Crest 3D Whitestrips Advanced Vivid Glamorous

Would I buy again? Yes

These are really good and made a genuine difference to the whiteness of my teeth! My Mum noticed it and said how well it had worked and I noticed in photos they looked better. I was dubious to try them but my friend had and she has lovely white teeth, so I went for it, and I’m happy I did. I finished the pack months ago and my teeth are still pretty white, so it does last. I’ll buy some more in future though if I see a big decrease in brightness! My teeth were not super yellow to start off with but these just made them a lot nicer and gave me more confidence smiling! The site I’ve linked is the one I bought from and it was all legit and arrived super quickly.

Clarins Eau Des Jardins Smoothing Body Cream

Would I buy again? No

I didn’t technically buy this, it was part of the Selfridges Summer Beauty Box. It was nice to use up, but it wasn’t anything exceptional in terms of moisturising. It did smell nice though!

Phew, that was a long one. Well done if you got to the end!

Best wishes,

Nicole

A Little Boots and Paperchase Stationary Haul

I have been on an absolute spending spree the past couple of weeks. I hope that this has come to an end now as I think I have outspent myself and satisfied those retail urges. There have been so many boosted student discounts around that completely reeled me in! H&M, Topshop, River Island… EVERYWHERE HAS CHARMED ME TO PART WITH MY MONEY. But I shouldn’t complain. I’ve bought some lovely bits! Enough ‘what I bought’ posts for over a week I reckon hahah. Oh deary me.
I’ll begin with a more boring haul. Well, not boring, but fairly standard.
I already use a couple of Yes To skincare products that I’ve been impressed with, so when I saw these on offer in Boots (1/3 off the full price) I knew I wanted to try some of their haircare! The brand uses 95%+ natural ingredients and are cruelty free, what’s not to like! I find the packaging cute too. I’ve been experiencing a bit of an itchy scalp so the Yes To Carrots Dry Scalp Shampoo and Conditioner were perfect. I also got a Yes To Coconut Conditioner to soothe my dry/damaged hair. I’ve used all three already and am very happy with all of them.
I adore the original Nip+Fab Glycolic Fix Facial Pads, so I saw these new Glycolic Fix Extreme Night Pads with 1/3 off in Boots too and thought I’d give them a try once my Liquid Gold runs out. However they have a lot to live up to if they’re anywhere near as good as that!
Finally I swiped another Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer as it’s so rare to find them in stock you have to grab them while you can!
In Paperchase I grabbed this cute, nautically striped pad of sticky notes as I’m forever needing to jot things down or make lists, and this is handy just to keep by my bed for those fleeting thoughts you need to note down.
I also picked up these adorable mini highlighters that have cats on! I just think they’re so cute and fun to use, as well as having the practical purpose of helping you in lectures and note-taking 😉 They also have a set with owls instead, equally as sweet, and even bear ones! It’s just too much stationary cuteness.
As I’ve said, I’ve bought rather a lot recently, so I’ll be back with some other clothing and beauty hauls soon. Do you prefer seeing clothes hauls with just pictures of the items, or with the items on? It’s certainly easier to photograph them hanging, but I think I personally prefer seeing clothes on… Let me know what you think.
 Love,
Nicole

Empties with Mini Reviews #2

The empties bag was overflowing once again so here’s my second installment! You can view my first one here. I get great satisfaction out of finishing products, I like to finish pretty much everything, even if it doesn’t work particularly well, there’s always a use for it! A crap face moisturiser as a hand cream for example, I don’t like to waste anything.

Skincare

Would I buy again? Hmm probably not
My eyes aren’t exactly a problem area for me, I have slight dark circles (doesn’t everybody?!) but my main aim with an eye cream is to provide hydration and protect against the elements. It is a gel like formula that is nice and cooling, the effects were never going to be dramatic, but I would like an eyecream with SPF in future, and maybe a more nourishing one for night time.
Would I buy again? Quite possibly
I actually did a whole post on this a few months back (click here for that), but with my new appreciation for SPF since then, I think it’s quite possible I would repurchase this again as a day moisturiser. But my addiction to trying new products may delay that.
Would I buy again? No
Another trial and fail of a spot treatment. I thought it was a reasonable price for a high end brand that could actually work, but it didn’t really make any difference to my spots, centred predominantly on my cheeks and chin. I think a lot of it is scarring from previous spots which probably is making me think my current spots are worse than they are… Regardless, spots or scars, I want them to go 😥
Would I buy again? Probably not… But it is cheap so…
This is one of those oily eye makeup removers, which I kind of like because they make your eye area feel sooo silky and soft. However, I don’t think they’re the most effective. It did get all my eye makeup off, eventually, but you do have to hold it there for a while and repeat to get it all off. Not exactly a quick fix.
Would I buy again? Yes, already have a new pot!
I really enjoyed using these and felt that they did do good for my skin. The idea of glycolic acid can sound a bit scary, but I honestly didn’t react badly to these whatsover, I use them most mornings and nights as a toner product. I feel they have slightly helped scarring on my cheeks due to their exfoliating element, however there’s still a long way to go before I can claim ‘clear’ skin! I really recommend these and they are more budget friendly than some alternatives on the market.

Bodycare
Would I buy again? Yes
A no-thrills hair removal cream that does just that. I buy this usually from Savers or pound shop type places as you don’t really need to pay more the £1 for this stuff! I use it every few weeks on my arms as I just feel nicer when my arms aren’t hairy! They’re not exceptionally hairy, but I do have dark hair so it’s fairly noticeable (to me anyway) so I just remove it with this every now and then.
Would I buy again? Hmm maybe
I ended up with loads of these at Christmas time in gift sets etc, so I’ve been working my way through them. As always with Soap and Glory, the packaging and name are adorable, and it smells and feels lovely! I expect there are more nourishing hand creams out the though.
Would I buy again? Maybe
I’m saying maybe again as I always end up with so many Soap and Glory products at Christmas, that I never actually have to buy my own! But this is a very nice body moisturiser, smells the same as Hand Food, which smells great! It feels pretty luxurious to use.
Would I buy again? Yes
No, anti antiperspirants aren’t glamorous, but they are a very important part of life, let alone a beauty routine. Nobody wants to stink! I thought I’d include this as Mitchum is my favourite and in my opinion the best antiperspirant deodorant brand I’ve tried. My particular favourite is the roll on however, which I genuinely feel basically stops me sweating a lot of the time! And that’s just what you want from a deodorant.
Makeup
Would I buy again? Probably not
I thought I had found my perfect eyebrow pencil when I first got this, but I have now got through two of these in quick succession, which is just incredibly annoying, they just don’t last long at all! They’re not massively expensive, but they’re not super cheap either. And seeing as Sleek is not the most accessible brand in that not all Superdrugs or Boots stock it, the idea of having to order them online every couple of weeks is just an inconvenience. The brush on one end is very handy though. I am currently using and enjoying Makeup Revolution’s Brow Pencil which at £3.50 a piece is great value!
Would I buy again? No
I would like to try the other Archery eye brow pencil with the brush on one end, as frankly this one with the ‘brow tint’ is completely pointless, no pigment to it at all. It doesn’t add anything, it’s £2 more than the brush one and the brush one would be far more useful!
Would I buy again? No
I bought this as I’d read some bloggers comparing it to the Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer. However I found it no where near as good. The coverage just wasn’t up to scratch and the consistency just wasn’t as nice and creamy. Collection Lasting Perfection and Maybelline Fit Me Concealer are still my top concealers.
Would I buy again? No
This mascara was fine, but that’s all I can say on it. Yes it darkens your lashes and gives length and volume, but it didn’t wow me.
Would I buy again? Hmmm probably not
This mascara has got a lot of love over youtube and blogs, and it is really good. I reviewed it, along with Soap and Glory’s Thick and Fast, a few months ago here, and my opinion on it hasn’t changed massively. However I do feel it got better in the middle of its lifetime where it thickened up a bit and gave more volume and separation. A solid, affordable mascara. I’d ultimately like to find a great cruelty free mascara though, I’m currently using a No7 one.
 Haircare
Would I buy again? No
This was underwhelming. I didn’t notice much of a difference to my hair when using this, irresistible softness it was not. Much better hair serums/oils out there.
Would I buy again? No
My brother and sister got me this as one of my gifts on my birthday, it’s probably available in budget stores and maybe Savers. It smells nice, but I was always put off using it as you’re supposed to towel dry your hair, put it on and leave it 10 minutes before washing off. To me that’s just a massive faff and walking around waiting 10 minutes while my hair grew cold and slimy before washing it off was not enjoyable. The results were not worth it.
Would I buy again? Maybe
I’ve lumped all these conditioners together because, as I’ve said before I’m not loyal with haircare and get through conditioners like nobody’s business because of my big mop of thick, dry hair. All these were good conditioners that did the job and made my hair soft and nourished. I generally buy whatever is on offer, but recently with my aims to buy more cruelty free products, that will also affect which products I purchase in future.
I once again left these products to accumulate too long and this has taken an age to write and put together! But I really enjoy reading/watching empties posts/videos, so I hope you enjoy mine too. I’ll be back with a third installment sooner than I probably expect ha.
Best wishes,
Nicole

Empties with Mini Reviews #1

FINALLY got round to taking pictures of my empties bag which has been accumulating for a period longer than is probably healthy. But they can now be binned 🙂 I’ve split it up into different categories as there is quite a lot of stuff.
Body
The Body Shop Glazed Apple Body Butter
Would I buy again? Yes
This is a limited edition body butter that came out for Christmas, and I was given this in a gift set from my brother. It smells beautiful and is so nice to use. The set came with other products like a shower gel and body polish which I still have left to use, so I’ll still be able to enjoy this wonderful scent. Definitely worth looking out for again at Christmas time.
Would I buy again? No, not unless heavily discounted (I sometimes see the brand in TK Maxx for cheaper)
Apparently this RRP’s at £19.99, which is just crazy. I got it when it was £9.99 as I was feeling spendy and wondered if it could help out my dimply thighs ready for summer. It is a very good moisturiser, I’d wake up the morning after using it and my legs would just feel incredibly smooth, but I never noticed any improvement in firmness. But as an intense moisturiser it is lovely.
Would I buy again? Yes
Mmmm I love this smell. It is almost sickly sweet, but I love sweet stuff, probably won’t be for everyone though. It makes your legs smell like cakes. I would say the Dr Ceuticals one above is actually more moisturising than this one, but for the smell and how fun it is to use I’d buy this again.
Would I buy again? Yes
Soap and Glory do it again with another amazing scent. Lovely body wash, lathers up wonderfully and of course smells incredible. Big bottle lasts for ages, I was kind of happy when I finished this as I’d had it so long, but I may buy again in future.
Hair
Would I buy again? Yes
This stuff was brilliant! I hate getting my haircut and was putting it off for ages, I bought this in the hope it would do something for my split ends and damaged hair and I really felt I noticed a difference. Probably the best hair serum I’ve used this far in terms of repairing.
Would I buy again? No, probably not
I’m not very loyal with my shampoos and conditioners, I will generally buy whatever’s on offer/cheapest and I like trying new ones. I generally go for middle range ones like LOreal, Aussie, OGX, John Freida etc. This conditoner wasn’t really anything special though, didn’t notice any difference in particular.
Would I buy again? Yes, already have
I won’t be without heat defence spray now, since I first started heat styling in my teenage years, I got into the habit of always spraying my hair with this product after washing it and before heat styling. I find the TRESemme offering a generous size and hence I keep going back to it. I generally snap it up when it’s on offer in supermarkets (it’s often £2.50 in Asda).
Dove Intensive Repair Regenerating Mask
Would I buy again? No
I got this in Savers ages ago when I was trying to delay my haircut. I don’t have much to say on it, it conditioned but again, nothing special.
Skincare
Would I buy again? Maybe
I’ve repurchased this a few times in the past, it’s a nice product and I think it did make a slight difference to my spot prone skin… But really it’s just not hydrating enough for me and I’d like to test out other moisturisers, but it is one I’d probably come back to.
Would I buy again? No
In short, this did not defend against any blemishes. I had high hopes and bought this when I had one of the £5 off No7 vouchers, but it did nothing. Noticed no difference when I stopped using it, same amount of spots as usual, so it has not been missed.
Would I buy again? Possibly… But not any time soon
I was very excited to try this much hyped cleanser after it became quite the cult product, but I must admit I was underwhelmed. It’s pleasant to use, nice, fresh, clean, natural smell, and the creamy formula is nice. One pump would rub into my skin so quickly though, I feel like I could easily have used two each time. I’d heard it has cleared spots for some people, but I didn’t notice any difference. Won’t rush to buy again.
Would I buy again? No, especially not after the price hike from £17 to £22.50
Hmmm I really wanted to love this, but it just didn’t do enough for me and I didn’t miss it once I’d finished it all. It was nice to apply to the skin, it felt cooling and gave a burst of hydration. But I don’t feel this lasted for a prolonged period, nevermind the 48 hours claimed.
Would I buy again? No
Again, this wasn’t anything miraculous. I wouldn’t wake up and my face be visibly clear. Sudocrem I find more effective!
Makeup
Would I buy again? Yes, yes, yes. I need a new one, but it’s never in stock in stores. May need to order online.
I get this in the lightest shade ‘Fair’ as I find it has a nice brightening effect under my eyes. I also use it on spots and redness. It really is a great, thick, high coverage concealer that lasts.
Would I buy again? No
I wasn’t a massive fan of this from the first use. I’d used it years ago when it was packaged differently, possibly the formula has changed since then too. The colour match wasn’t great for me (I got Vanille) and I didn’t find the coverage enough for me, I like pretty full coverage and I still felt the need for concealer on my mildly scarred cheeks when using this foundation. Wasn’t blown away with the wear time either, I’d come home from work after wearing it all day and wasn’t greeted with the nicest complexion in the mirror.
Would I buy again? NO
I found this crap to be honest, rubbish coverage on under eye. It’s such a thin, watery consistency, it just doesn’t cover. It may brighten and highlight slightly, but there are much better concealers for coverage which is what I generally value most.
Pheww that was a long one. I’ll try not to let them mount up that much again, that was a bit intense and tedious to write xD More manageable Empties posts in future!
Best wishes,
Nicole
