Latest Makeup Empties with Mini Reviews

I am back with another makeup empties post! I never know how popular these are but I personally find it really interesting to see what people think once they’ve finished a product. Finding out whether they would buy it again, or not, is surely one of the most indicative pieces of info to help you decide whether something is worth buying.

First up is a trio of base products.

Let’s start with the Essence Stay All Day 16h Concealer (£2.50). I was hoping this would be an affordable gem but I did not get on with this. In fact, I didn’t even finish it because I found it did nothing, but I did give it to my sister to try to see if she likes it; we all have different preferences so who knows, it might work for her. I used it under my eyes and I personally found it to have very poor coverage! It was quite a liquidy, watery formula and I do tend to prefer concealers that are quite creamy and thick. It was a fail for me.

Next up, the bareMinerals Illuminating Mineral Veil (£21). I bought this to use as an all-over setting powder and I actually quite liked it! However, if I were to buy it again I think I would get the non ‘illuminating’ version. I didn’t find it ridiculously ‘sparkly’ or anything, but it was just a little bit too much for me. However, the formula is great and it helped my makeup to last all day and it didn’t look cakey. I also like the packaging, which has a twist closure to keep the product locked in so it doesn’t go everywhere like many loose powder products are prone to.

Something I was very sad to find in my empties was the eye wateringly expensive Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder (£40) in the shade Diffused Light. These are truly gorgeous powders and I used it all over my face as a setting powder, similarly to the bareMinerals one I spoke about above. It ensured I never looked too matte or powdery but it helped my makeup to last. It did give a luminous effect, I won’t go too crazy with hyperbole because it’s not a complete miracle worker, but it does give you a pretty, natural looking glow and doesn’t look too ‘made up’. If I was feeling flush I would buy again but I would probably try a different shade, just because I love trying new stuff! If you saw my recent Space NK Haul you’ll see I bought the new Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit Palette which has a new shade of the Ambient Lighting Powder, so I’m covered for the time being. 🙂

I think I discussed this NYX Dewy Finish Setting Spray (£7) in a previous post I did on my NYX Collection, so I’ll keep it fairly brief. I did really like this setting spray. I haven’t tried loads of others so can’t say it’s the best in the whole world but for the price it does pretty much everything I would want it to. The main thing for me is to keep my face looking as fresh as possible and not too powdery which I felt this did. It helped my makeup to all mesh together. I probably would repurchase!

Onto mascaras I’ve finished and I’ll begin with the best – the Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara (£19. I’m not one to venture frequently into high end mascaras as I don’t think it’s a product you need to spend loads of money on for results. However, I will definitely buy a full size of this in the future! It is a brilliant mascara that makes your lashes so thick and full! The brush is pretty big and it took me a while to get to grips with, but once I learned to apply it and not get it all over my eyelids I fell in love. If you love big lashes then I definitely recommend trying this.

An affordable mascara that unfortunately did not impress me and I would not repurchase was the SEVENTEEN Falsifeye HD Mascara (£6.99). I like big lashes and this didn’t give me them. I feel like the brush just doesn’t pack enough product onto the lashes and the plastic bristles are quite short and insubstantial.

I bought this Kiko Unforgettable Mascara (£7.20) last year when they had a deal on their website. It was okay. I had high hopes for it as the brush looked promising however it didn’t wow me and I wouldn’t repurchase. I think the brush was maybe a little too dense so that it couldn’t quite grab and completely envelope the lashes to make them reach their full potential.

I’m pretty sure I’ve raved about this next product before on my blog. NYX Micro Brow Pencil (£7) is an excellent, fuss-free eye brow pencil. It’s twist up so no need to sharpen (perfect for the lazy among us, *guilty*) and has a brush on the other end to tame your brows. I had the shade Ash Brown which was a pretty perfect match for me and I have already bought another one.

The next product is very similar and equally as good. The Soap & Glory™ Archery™ 2-in-1 Brow Filling Pencil & Brush (£8) is likewise a twist up pencil with a brush on the other end. The application and formula is just as good as NYX’s. The only downside is that there is only two shades so unless one of these suits you, you’d be stuck.

Last up, I’m afraid it’s another Seventeen product that I really thoroughly disliked and didn’t actually finish because I just couldn’t bare to use it. The SEVENTEEN Make Your Mark Soft Eyeliner Pen (£3.99) is just not comfortable to use at all! The tip of the pen is just far too stiff and rigid and scrapes against your eye! Eyes are sensitive things and I don’t want to feel like I’m scratching my eye out, it was genuinely painful at times! Additionally, it was not super black either and I couldn’t bare to press any harder to see if I could get better colour pay-off. I definitely wouldn’t buy this again, but I do actually like Seventeen as a brand so despite having a bad experience with two of their products I’ve talked about in this post I will continue to keep up to date with things they release and try new things.

I hope you enjoyed reading about these products I’ve finished and make sure you sign up to my email subscription or follow me on Bloglovin!

This Evening’s Face

This is a bit of a rushed post as I had nothing scheduled or planned for today, but I’d been doing so well so far managing to post every day in October I didn’t want to let a day slip by with no post.

So I thought seeing as I’m going out tonight I’d share what makeup I’m planning on wearing. It could change but this is what I’m planning on trying and hopefully it’ll look good! My partying and drinking every Saturday is behind me but tonight I am going for a meal with my two best girl-friends to celebrate their birthdays (which are a week apart). We’re going for an Indian so I’m looking forward to that!

Here’s what I’m planning on chucking on my face…

img_4064img_4067img_4068img_4070

img_4071
Nars Semi Matte Lipstick in Scarlett Empress

Nars Semi Matte Lipstick in Scarlett Empress

For my face I’m going to use Becca Backlight Priming Filter (£32) all over face and then some Too Faced Primed and Poreless Primer (£24) on my nose and apples of my cheeks, as this is where my pores are largest and most noticeable. For foundation I’m going with Nars Sheer Glow (£31) which I have in the shade ‘Mont Blanc’. My favourite concealer is still Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer (£4.19) in the shade ‘Fair’ so I’m going to use that under my eyes and on any redness that’s still peaking through. I’ll then set my under eye area with the NYX HD Finishing Powder (£8) in the shade ‘Banana’ which is brightening. I’ll then set the rest of my face with Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder (£40) which I have in the shade ‘Diffused Light’ (this is virtually empty now, can’t bring myself to repurchase it with that insane price tag)!

To add some colour and life back to my skin I’ll use the Nars One Shocking Moment Cheek Studio Palette (this was a limited edition palette). It has the  Laguna (£28) bronzer and a great shade for contour. My favourite blush is the palest pink one so I’ll probably go for that one. For highlight I think I might go with this one called ‘So Hollywood’ from Anastasia Beverly Hills. This too was unfortunately limited edition and I can’t find it anywhere linked online, sorry!

For eyes I’ll go in with the Urban Decay Primer Potion (£16) and curl my lashes with these cute eyelash curlers from Primark. To line my upper and lower water line I use the Lily Lolo Eyeliner Pencil (£6.99) in black. I don’t like faffing around with eye shadow so I think I might go for my fanciest eye shadow stick which is By Terry Ombre Blackstar (£29) in ‘Misty Rock’. I’ll then probably just define my crease with Makeup Geek Eyeshadow (£5.50) in ‘Creme Brulee’ which I always do as it looks so pretty and defines the eyes beautifully. For mascara I am absolutely loving theBalm Mad Lash Mascara (£15) which I wrote a whole post about which you can read here if you would like! I might add some falsies but we’ll see how I am for time! Got so much to do… paint nails, straighten hair, do makeup, choose outfit! And I can never be without some eyeliner, so I’ll just line my upper lash line with some Soap and Glory Supercat (£6).

For eyebrows I absolutely love NYX Brow Pomade (£5.50) which I use in ‘Brunette’. This stuff is awesome and can still look really natural or you can go bolder. Great stuff.

I’m still very unsure on which lip colour to rock, but I’ve yet to don a dark, berry lip shade this Autumn (how criminal of me) so I am considering going for the Nars Semi-Matte Lipstick (£20) in ‘Scarlett Empress’. But, let’s be honest, no lipstick is going to last the course of me eating an Indian meal anyway so a top up will be essential!

So that’s my current thinking for tonight’s makeup… What do you think? I hope you enjoy your Saturday night whatever you’re doing.

NYX Collection, Swatches & Quick Reviews

Since NYX has become more readily available in the UK I seem to have amassed quite a collection. I think they offer great products at an affordable price, as well as being cruelty-free unlike so many other affordable high street brands.

The below picture shows most of the products but I discovered a few more I’d forgotten after taking it lol! I didn’t realise how much NYX stuff I had oops. xD

nyx collection and reviews

I’m going to start with Lip Products as they are probably my favourites!

nyx soft matte lip cream liquid suede matte lipstick lip liner

nyx lip swatches 2

nyx soft matte lip cream in monte carlo
NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Monte Carlo
nyx soft matte lip cream stockholm (3)
NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Stockholm

These two are in the Soft Matte Lip Cream Formula. This was the first lip formula I tried from NYX and it’s pretty good. They’re a light, fluffy, velvety texture which means they don’t dry to what I would consider a fully matte finish, but that isn’t necessarily a bad thing. They retain a light sheen and don’t dry out the lips. Longevity is not their strong point; they will wear off much like a normal lipstick and because of the way they dry they wear off evenly and are less likely to leave any horrible flaky patches. They surprised me with the intensity of pigmentation however and they have a lovely colour range. I feel they’re a good product for beginners or people that just want easy application and minimal upkeep.

Would I recommend? Yes

nyx liquid suede lip cream tea and cookies
NYX Liquid Suede in Tea and Cookies

nyx liquid suede soft spoken
NYX Liquid Suede in Soft Spoken

These are in the Liquid Suede formula and I really love these! Unlike some other formulas you definitely don’t need a lip liner underneath these as the formula is so lovely and creamy that it doesn’t cling to any dry patches. I think this is my favourite formula for comfort and the finished look; however it does seem to take ages to dry down and because of this it is open to smudging. I wish Liquid Suedes came in the colour range of the Lip Lingeries because I just love my nude colours ❤ Similar to the Soft Matte Lip Creams, I wouldn’t say they dry completely matte but I’m discovering I prefer this to extremely matte products which can look so harsh and dry.

Would I recommend? Yes

nyx lip lingerie liquid lipstick lace detail
NYX Lip Lingerie in Lace Detail

This is from the Lip Lingerie range which has the most amazing shades that are right up my street. In the image I am just wearing the product without lip liner; I definitely think this product fairs better when layered on top of balm and lip liner as it looks and feels very dry otherwise! Alone this product has a much more matte appearance than the Soft Matte Lip Creams and Liquid Suedes which is probably why I feel the need to layer it over liner to escape that flaky, dry finish.

Would I recommend? Yes, for the beautiful shade range and as long as you’re willing to take the time to layer liner underneath

nyx matte lipstick natural (2)
NYX Matte Lipstick in Natural
nyx matte lipstick euro trash
NYX Matte Lipstick in Euro Trash

Next are these Matte Lipsticks in Natural and Euro Trash. It confuses me slightly how on earth ‘Natural’ is in any way, shape or form a natural lip colour; I expected it to be a nude colour but it most definitely leans towards being purple! Euro Trash is a gorgeous colour and the closest dupe I’ve found so far to my beloved MAC Velvet Teddy. However, it falls short on the formula compared to MAC’s beautiful creamy consistency. That’s not to say I dislike these lipsticks though; they have good colour, easy to apply and have a pretty, non-drying finish. I am not a fan of the packaging, I’ve got a feeling I’ll be likely to hit the top of the bullet on the lid as it’s just so flimsy and twisty somehow! Definitely cheap packaging but they’re hardly an expensive option so we can’t be too fussy 😉

Would I recommend? Yes, they’re worth a try

nyx sugar glass lip liner
NYX Slide on Lip Liner in Sugar Glass

Here we have one of the Slide on Lip Pencil Liners. I really love these! They are so smooth and creamy so you can fill your lips in with relative ease. I don’t know if I would personally wear it on its own but you definitely could. I think the Lip Lingerie I have would work well over the top of this. Something I worry about with pencils is how well they will sharpen but this one sharpened well, no problems!

Would I recommend? Yes

nyx retractable lip liner in nude
NYX Retractable Lip Liner in Nude

Now onto not such a great lip liner; the Retractable Lip Liner… I love retractable products. They work well for my laziness when it comes to sharpening so I thought I’d grab one of these as well as a Slide on Lip Liner (above) to compare. The Slide on Lip Liner wins hands down. This retractable one is just annoying. It’s a lovely formula, similarly creamy and a nice colour. However it’s SO creamy that it just does not work well as a retractable product. I was getting really annoyed using this as it would just break off using the necessary pressure to apply it hence it’s been very wasteful. Now I know this I will try to be careful not to twist too much out at a time but you’d have to twist it up multiple times to do your whole lips because as it’s so creamy it goes down super quickly. It’s just not worth it tbh and you’re better off buying the sharpenable slide on pencil; it’ll be less hassle and last longer!

Would I recommend? No

Wearing some of the Ritualistic illuminator on my cheek

So let’s move onto some powder products. Here we have some Hot Singles Eye Shadows and an Illuminator. It’s hard for me to say much about these at the moment as I haven’t really played around much with them so it’d be unfair for me to make any bold statements. My feelings so far however are positive; the eyeshadows have good pigment and seem to blend well. The illuminator is not the smoothest nor the most pigmented but it is a beautiful white gold which I’m hoping will be flattering on my quite fair skin.

Would I recommend? I’ve not used them enough to say either way at the moment

nyx tinted brow pomade brunette micro brow pencil ash brown
NYX Tame and Frame Tinted Brow Pomade in Brunette | NYX Micro Brow Pencil in Ash Brown

nyx tinted brow pomade tame and frame micro brow pencil brunette ash brown

Here we have some brow products; the Tame and Frame Tinted Brow Pomade and the NYX Micro Brow Pencil! I’m not going to spend too much time talking about these as the bottom line is I love them both! I know Anastasia Beverley Hills seems to be the holy grail of brow products for many but I honestly have no interest in trying those products at more than double the price of these ones when I love these NYX ones so much. They just do the job. The colour ranges are great, I think most people could find a shade to suit them. The pencil is great, I love to have a brush on one end. And the tinted brow pomade I probably prefer even more as I love the shape you can create with it. Just FYI, I use the Zoeva 317 Wing Liner Brush with the pomade to do my brows and it is PERFECT.

Would I recommend? Yes absolutely!

nyx hd concealer light fair wonder pencil fair
L-R the Swatches: NYX Wonder Pencil | NYX HD Concealer in Fair | NYX HD Concealer in Light

Next we have some complexion products. Concealers are one of my favourite things to try as we’re all always searching for products to give us that flawless base. These HD Concealer Wands however for me are just not good enough. I firstly bought it in the shade Light which is a completely off shade! It is not by any means Light, it’s so orange and definitely not flattering in my under eye! So I recently picked up Fair which is a much better shade for me, the difference in the two is stark considering Light is the next shade up from Fair! Anyway, even with this better shade I do not like this formula at all, unfortunately. I will still use it up of course as I hate to feel I’ve wasted my money but it’s really not good enough. The coverage is not high enough for my under-eyes and it dries in a horrible way that looks powdery and crepey which I actually feel ages me! It’s a thin, watery consistency compared to concealers I prefer (I tend to prefer creamy formulas) like the Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer and the Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer. I will not repurchase these which is a shame as I had high hopes!

As for the Wonder Pencil, also pictured, I don’t have much to report. I bought it to use as an eye-liner in my water line but I haven’t used it much even for that. When it arrived I saw it had written on it many other purposes so it’s actually a very multiple use product! It suggests you could use it as a concealer, an eye brightener and a reverse lip liner. I really need to give it a go as some of these options as it could be great. I like the sound of using it as a reverse lip liner and it might be great for spot concealing! It’s definitely not one for around the eyes though (other than water line) as it would tug the skin.

Would I recommend (HD Concealer)? No

Would I recommend (Wonder Pencil)? Hmm it’s okay! Not much to say so far

nyx pore filler primer

I have huge pores (in my opinion lol, they’re probably quite normal xD) on my nose and cheeks so anything that claims to get rid of them I am interested in! So in walked Pore Filler to my life. Unfortunately, I’m not a big fan and I do not find myself reaching for this very often despite having it a while. It is very very siliconey and I prefer a more creamy primer. As well as this I didn’t find that it did anything miraculous to hide my pores either; its slippery nature means your base goes on smoothly yes, but I could still see my pores through it hence I think I could get the same effect using primers I prefer the feel of which are creamier. It’s quite mattifying which as someone with normal/dry skin I didn’t really like, it just made my skin look so flat, but maybe an oilier complexion would get on better with it. But as far as the name suggests, I was not impressed.

Would I recommend? No

nyx dewy finish makeup setting spray

Right, the last product I have to share is a Setting Spray! I have it in the Dewy Finish but it also comes in a Matte Finish; I’m not sure how much difference there is between the two. I use a setting spray mainly because I like the way it makes my makeup look afterwards; it tends to soften any cakiness and makes the finish look less powdery by meshing everything together with your skin. So if you’re interested in setting spray for the purposes of making your makeup last longer I can’t really offer an opinion. I’m lucky that my makeup lasts well when I do my normal base routine using primer, foundation, concealer where necessary and then I set my entire face with powder every time without fail. Powder for me really is the key to longevity. So who knows if this product helps my makeup last longer! But I do know I like using it and it’s a lot more affordable than other options available. I do want to try other brands though just to see if there’s any difference or if it is just a fancy bottle of water!

Would I recommend? Yes, I’d recommend just to try a setting spray in general and see if you like what it does for the finish of your makeup

And there we have it, my collection of NYX Products! I haven’t really got my eye on any other things from NYX so in theory my collection shouldn’t be growing anytime soon but ya know, these things just happen sometimes so never say never 😀

Best wishes, Nicole xxxx

Empties with Mini Reviews #4

It’s been about 5 months since my last empties post so those empty products have been building up! I finally got round to photographing them and then joyfully tipped them in the recycling bin 🙂 Oh man this is going to take so long to write…

So let’s start with makeup!

IMG_2675

Urban Decay De-slick Makeup Setting Spray

I got this in the Selfridges Summer Beauty Box (omg that’s reminded me to get excited for this years one!) It was a travel size one and I enjoyed using it, I love the effect setting sprays have on my makeup, they mesh everything together so nicely and lessen that powdery, unnatural finish. However, I’m currently using a NYX one that does exactly the same job for me so I wouldn’t repurchase this for the price. I can’t say if it adds any wear time as my makeup generally lasts well regardless.

Would I buy again? No

Collection Sheer Loose Powder – Translucent

I’ve used this powder for years and it gives an awesome finish! It mattifies but gives a glow and really made my makeup last. However, I don’t think I’ll buy again now I have become more conscious of ingredients; there’s some pretty cheap ones in here and if possible I’d like to be avoiding parabens and talc.

Would I buy again? Probably not

NYX Micro Brown Pencil – Chocolate

Love this brow pencil! Having a brush on one end is important for me and I love the thin pencil, as well as it being a twist up so no need for sharpening. The colour range is good and there should be something for most people.

Would I buy again? Yes

No7 Dramatic Lift Mascara

I can’t remember why I picked this up, No7 isn’t usually a go-to brand for me however I am taking more notice lately as they really do have some great products at a good price point. This mascara impressed me; it was really black and volumising. It dried up a while back so I can’t remember if it ‘lifted’ my lashes as such but I know I liked it.

Would I buy again? Maybe (I’m not very loyal with mascara)

Soap & Glory™ Archery™ 2-in-1 Brow Filling Pencil & Brush

I’ve got through one of these before and they’re great! If you can make one of the two shades this comes in work for you then it’s a winner. Easy, quick brows. Very similar to the NYX Micro Brow Pencil except that one has the far superior colour range

Would I buy again? Yes, I already have

Sleek MakeUp Eyebrow Stylist

Since trying the NYX and Soap & Glory pencils this just doesn’t measure up. I really liked it at the time, it’s a lot thicker than the other two but after trying them I’ve found I prefer a thinner pencil as it’s more precise. The shape looks quite similar to the Anastasia Brow Definer tbh… But I can’t say for definite as I’ve not tried it.

Would I buy again? No

Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer

I’ve repurchased this so many times and it’s still one of the best concealers I’ve used. It has parabens but until I can find a concealer that’s as good and affordable then I’ll probably always have one of these in stock for a reliable option.

Would I buy again? Yes

The Body Shop All-in-One Instablur

I didn’t get on with this, it had got so hyped up so I was excited to see my pores disappear from my nose and cheeks but this did absolutely nothing. As a primer, fine, it made a good base for makeup (however it is very silicone-y and came out of the tubes in lumps and spurted everywhere – annoying) but it didn’t demonstrate to me any ‘blurring’. A disappointment and not exactly cheap.

Would I buy again? No

IMG_2689

No7 Early Defence Eye Cream

Not much to say on this, miracles were not worked but I still liked this eye cream. At my age there shouldn’t exactly be much to work on anyway so it’s mainly just about hydration and keeping things young for as long as possible, which is what this range is about. It was pleasant to use and was a good base for makeup!

Would I buy again? Maybe

Superdrug Vitamin E Radiance Eye Cream

The link I’ve given is not to the exact product as it seems that Superdrug have reformulated this eye cream. The main selling point of it for me was that it had SPF 15 in it and not many eye creams do, however this new formula doesn’t appear to contain any SPF. The product was okay, it was a bit hit or miss as to whether it would apply well as I think it reacted badly with some other skincare I used as it would sometimes ball up and flake off my skin which is the most annoying thing when it happens! Although when it applied well it was a very nice eye cream.

Would I buy again? No

Superdrug Simply Pure Micellar Water

Meh, this was okay. But I will refer you to the next product as in comparison that one is much better and more pleasant to use!

Would I buy again? No

Botanics Hydration Burst Micellar Water

This is my favourite micellar water I’ve ever used. It’s gentle, gets off my makeup and isn’t as drying as other formulas can sometimes feel.

Would I buy again? Yes, already got 2 more bottles

Super Facialist Vitamin C+ Glow Boost Skin Serum

As with all the products in this range, this smells amazing! So lovely to use. It’s what I imagine a serum texture to be, a creamy, slightly gel-like consistency. Whilst I enjoyed using it I’m unsure whether I saw or felt any improvement from using it. I was hoping the Vit C would improve some marks but I didn’t really notice any difference.

Would I buy again? Maybe, if it was on offer

Superdrug Vitamin E Radiance Face Cream

This is a very affordable day moisturiser with SPF 15 and has a shimmer to it which makes the skin glow. It was fine and I don’t really have many complaints other than the texture isn’t as smooth as I might ideally like. It feels a bit thick and gritty, possibly because of the shimmery element.

Would I buy again? Probably not

Yes To Carrots Daily Facial Moisturiser SPF15

I enjoyed using this, a majority natural product with some SPF. It was a runny, thin consistency though that’s probably better for summer months than winter as it wasn’t the most moisturising. It’s initially a bit sticky so you need to let it sink in a bit before makeup.

Would I buy again? Maybe

Yes to Carrots Intense Hydration Night Cream for Normal to Dry Skin

Another one from Yes To. I’d argue that it’s not ‘intense hydration’, I still felt my skin was a bit dry and it didn’t quite quench it with moisture. It’s a good but basic night moisturiser and a very affordable natural product.

Would I buy again? Maybe

IMG_2690

Alpha H Liquid Gold

I love Liquid Gold! When I purchased it the first time it hurt because of the price tag so I was praying it actually made a difference. So I was very happy when it did. It’s smoothing and brightening and despite being quite strong I found it gentle. I love how much of a lazy product it can be, you can simply cleanse and then wipe this all over your face and it will act as your toner, serum and moisturiser. I still apply some eye cream though. You can do this as often as every other night. I’ve been without Liquid Gold for months and I’ve now got a supersize 200ml on the way and I can’t wait to have it back in my life.

Would I buy again? Yes, I’ve got one on the way to me

Nip+Fab Glycolic Fix Night Pads Extreme

I love the original Glycolic Pads from Nip+Fab so I was interested to see what these were like. I was a bit underwhelmed as I didn’t find they did anything extra and I hoped the addition of Salicylic Acid would be good for my skin. However I think I should’ve used these in exactly the same way as I had used the original i.e day and night, rather than taking notice of the name. This might’ve given better results. However I found these less hydrating than the originals and that the pads were less soaked with the formula. I may try these again given that in theory the ingredients are good and should be effective.

Would I buy again? Yes

Nip + Fab Glycolic Fix Exfoliating Facial Pads

I’ve talked about these again and again so it should be obvious that I think they’re great. They were the first Glycolic product I ever used and I really noticed the difference to my skin. If you’ve never tried glycolic before I think these are a great one to start off with – not going to break the bank and super convenient with the pre-soaked pads.

Would I buy again? Yes, I have

Paula’s Choice Clear Regular Strength Anti-Redness Exfoliating Solution with 2% Salicylic Acid

As you can see I bought a mini of this before buying the full size so I obviously liked this! Salicylic acid is more effective than Glycolic for spots, redness, blocked pores etc which is what I struggle with more, so after some research I found this. I do think this slightly faded the redness of acne marks on my cheeks and helped to control spots. The results were not miraculous but I do think it made a difference and it has a good formula. Paulas Choice generally seems like a great brand, I love the philosophy of just using necessary ingredients that work; and being cruelty free of course!

Would I buy again? Yes

IMG_2680

Superdrug Pro V Silky Smooth Argan Oil Conditioner and Superdrug Pro V Colour Care Conditioner

If you’re on a budget but want cruelty free products, Superdrug’s own brand products are a reliable choice. The big 400ml bottles are great when you use as much conditioner as I do.  I found the UV Filters one much better than the Argan Oil one. They smelt great, like the smell of a hairdressers salon.

Would I buy again? Maybe the UV Filters one

Yes to Carrots Scalp Relief Conditioner and Yes to Carrots Scalp Relief Shampoo

More from Yes To! Again, good, affordable cruelty free haircare. However the conditioner was not enough for my dry hair. The shampoo was good, lasted me a long time and the addition of tea tree was good for my scalp. Don’t think I’d buy these exact products again though, but I would check out some of their other haircare.

Would I buy again? Probably not

Inecto Naturals Coconut Conditioner

I picked this up from a Savers store as it sounded pretty good. Natural and with coconut oil in it! It made my hair smell great, so coconutty! Once again though, it just wasn’t enough to make me feel like my hair was super nourished so I wouldn’t buy it again. As you can probably tell, haircare is another thing I’m completely not loyal to!

Would I buy again? No

IMG_2682

Lastly, we’re rounding it off with a perfume I’ve finished up!

Britney Spears Believe Eau de Parfum

I don’t think anyone can argue that Britney Spears has a phenomenal range of amazing smelling perfumes for young women and girls. Back in the days of ‘Fantasy‘ filling the school corridors I was among those wearing and loving it. The sickly sweet, vanilla smell and beautiful pink bottle. I also had Curious and Midnight Fantasy which I loved equally. I was a big Britney fan back in the day so when she released perfume I was very excited.

A couple of years back when I wanted a new but affordable perfume I remembered I’d got a tester of Believe in a magazine years earlier and it was really nice; a more ‘grown up’ scent from Britney, not as sweet and vanilla-y but it’s fruitiness ensured I still liked it. It’s a really pretty scent and the link I’ve given details the notes if you’re interested. If you like other Britney scents I feel like you can’t dislike this one even if it is slightly different but in a good, more mature way.

Would I buy again? Maybe, but it’s one I can live without

I say it every time but I really shouldn’t let things mount up to this much, it takes flipping ages to write these posts! I hope you’ve found it interesting or helpful.

2015 Beauty Favourites

These are my favourite posts at the moment as they are so helpful in finding out the very best products in different categories. Whether you’re looking for your ‘holy grail’ foundation (aren’t we all, still) or the missing product to your skincare routine, if people are choosing things as their favourite from the entire year, they must have worked for them at least, so they might work for you too!

In summer 2015 I decided I wanted to start buying only cruelty free cosmetics in future, but I still have lots of non-cruelty free products to use up, so even if I’ve liked them I’m not going to include them in this post as I don’t want to promote them. For this reason, some categories won’t have a favourite from the year as I’ve yet to find one! My main aims with my blog are to be completely honest but also to stick to my morals which now include my aim to buy only cruelty free products.

Too Faced Primed & Poreless Face Primer

Honourable mention: NYX Pore filler

Foundation

Nars Sheer Glow Foundation

(I am not completely convinced this is my favourite ever foundation but I do love it and other ones I am using I am just using up as they are not cruelty free. I’m sure I will try a few new foundations in 2016!)

bareMinerals Illuminating Mineral Veil

Honourable mention: Collection Sheer Loose Powder in Translucent

Highlight

Illuminator by Anastasia Beverley Hills (in So Hollywood)

(I slagged this off for the high price tag to begin with, but months on and actually using it I really like it. I do still think I’d have preferred Starlight though, I think a white/silver highlight would look beautiful!)

Lipstick

KIKO Luscious Cream – Creamy Lipstick

Gerard Cosmetics Lipstick

And that’s all the categories for this year! Hopefully by 2016 favourites I’ll have a nails category winner, eye colour, serum, brushes, perfume etc!

As always, we want to try new things and search for something even better the next year! Particular areas I want to try new products within are foundation and concealer; I’ve always been most focused with creating the perfect complexion. That’s probably why I love skincare so much! I’m really happy with my skincare routine at the moment, my skin’s the best it has been in years and I largely think that’s down to the products I’ve chosen. However, I am not currently using a serum in my routine, so this is an area I’d like to try something new in. I’ve tried face oils but I swear they just break me out and ruin all my progress! So I think a serum would be a better option for me 🙂

Best wishes,

Nicole
